Friday Night Lights

The Fall Starts Off With Bangers

Every week we will share with you where the best "Music-First" dance parties will be held across New York City.
Don't forget to check out the discount code below the listings.
There are some heavy hitters heading to New York this weekend. Like, the kind of selectors who will make you question what you’re doing with your life and whether you should dedicate it to disco. The problem is, they’re all playing on Friday night, so what’s a girl to do?
We’ve got Chicago legend Jamie 3:26 playing the Golden Record party at Jolene, American club hero Maurice Fulton playing the Party Line’s 10 Year Anniversary, and DJs from The Loft and Paradise Garage playing at  7th Heaven at Good Room. It’s a doozy.
So, do you try to hit all three parties, or just show up to one and go all in? We’re not going to answer that question for you but what we will recommend is trying to see a DJ you haven’t seen before. Jamie 3:26 doesn’t play in New York all the time, whereas Maurice Fulton is here every couple of months and 7th Heaven has a residency at Good Room. The Party Line is happening at a warehouse and going until 6am, so if you want to get out of the club this weekend, perhaps that party is for you.
It’s tough decisions but we have no doubt you’ll have a transcendent dancefloor experience, no matter which party you pick.
***Editor’s note: We decided not to include Maurice Fulton and 7th Heaven in this week’s listings because we have featured those DJs/parties in the past and we like to spread the love - it’s the Brooklyn way.

NYC Nightlife 9/8-9/9

9.8 - Golden Record NYC with Jamie 3:26 at Jolene Sound Room

Jamie 3:26 was in Chicago for the birth of house music. He fell in love with genre dancing to Ron Hardy’s sets at the Muzic Box and when he stepped into the booth himself in the `80s, his name took inspiration from the legendary club’s address, 326 Lower North Wacker Drive. Today he takes the spirit of the Midwest with him wherever he goes, continuing the sonic legacy of the genre during every DJ set. You can hear this house hero, edit master, and DJ maestro for yourself at the Golden Record NYC’s party this Friday at Jolene.

9.8 - Fundido at Black Flamingo

Aptly named after the melted cheese dish, Fundido does not hesitate to play music from the more light hearted side of the italo and funk - the ‘cheesier’ tracks, if you will. Started by Billy Scher and Latane Hughe seven years ago, the duo set out to keep Brooklyn dancefloors fun with selections that also include proto, acid, progressive house, and even some hits thrown in for good measure. They’re bringing their queso party to Black Flamingo this Friday.

9.9 - Bêvèrãgęš at The Nursery at Public Records

Big sounds and bold flavors collide at The Nursery this Saturday when the Bêvèrãgęš crew takes over for an afternoon affair. The roving party by DJ and restaurant veterans pairs music with natural wines for a full-body experience. Like their grape selections, the music by residents Seedy J and Brian Vino always feels joyful and uplifting. Brazilian-born, Brooklyn-based label owner Renate Do Valle will also be sharing her eclectic and colorful records at the party.

9.9 - Sol Follow with Rick Whilite at Public Records

Rick ‘the Godson’ Wilhite has dedicated his life to dance music. Since starting his DJ career in Detroit in 1986, he has also added producer, record store owner, music historian and promoter to his resume. It’s fair to say that whatever one wants to know about Rick, it is conveyed through his music. You can learn more about him and his love for house and disco this Saturday at Public Records.
