Happy 21st to 78 Sessions

Happy 21st to 78 Sessions

Despite all the fun that’s had at parties, throwing parties isn’t always the funnest job in the world.

To be honest, the party is the easy part. There are almost 100 things that happen before the night of the party.

First, you have to pick a headliner. You want someone who you know your crowd will love that will also draw a crowd. Then you’ve got to select the correct warm-up DJs to ensure the flow of the night is just right. Once you’ve nailed this then you need to find the perfect venue. You want a space that is intimate and comfortable where dancers can let loose but also feel safe.

Now once all that is locked down, the promotion game begins. You have to sell tickets and if you don’t sell tickets then anxiety sets in because you have to pay the DJs and, sometimes, the venue a fee. Other things you have to worry about include DJ equipment, DJ egos, security, the list goes on.

There’s so much going on behind the scenes that your average partier doesn’t realize but generally speaking, it’s all worth it when the needle drops on the first record. People who throw parties do it because they love music and getting to share a night with hundreds of dancers to their favorite DJ makes it all worth it.

This weekend 718 Sessions celebrates its 21st Anniversary and we think they deserve a special shout out for all the blood, sweat, and tears Benny Soto and Danny Krivit have put into the party so we can have fun.

11.09 - Love Games with The Illustrious Blacks at Good Room

Love Games is the kind of party where the decks are open to any type of music that will make dancers want to get down - from rock to italo to house to proto to disco to funk and soul, residents Lauren Murada & Finn Jones have played it all. The bi-monthly is back at Good Room this Thursday with special guests The Illustrious Blacks who seem to be a perfect fit for the night. The Brooklyn duo will be bringing their fusion of futuristic funk, hypnotic house, space disco, and synth-pop to the dancefloor.

11.10 - Mule Musiq at Public Records

Since their first release in 2005, Mule Musiq has grown into one of the most iconic labels in modern house music. The Japanese label’s reputation has grown out of releasing leftfield dance tracks for hard to pigeonhole musicians from around the globe like Force Of Nature, DJ Terre Theamlitz aka DJ Sprinkles, and Fred P. The weirder the better, as far as we’re concerned. The label is taking over Public Records this Friday night with label founder Toshiya Kawasaki and label mainstay Kuniyuki Takashi playing with label friend, Superpitcher.

11.10 - Fundido Takeover at Elsewhere

A party not only known for their cheesy name but its cheesy track selections, Fundido is taking over Elsewhere this Friday night with some of Brooklyn’s finest DJs. We’re talking about DJ  Lloyd (of Tiki Disco fame), Alex McCracken (of The Last Call fame), Extra Meesh (of Extra Water fame), Party Dad (of being the coolest dad around fame), and Papa (of being the first guy to take off his shirt at a party fame), playing alongside party residents Latane Fundido and Billy Scher. Expect disco, italo, house, balearic, proto, and anything else that makes you want to put your hands in the air like you just don’t care.

11.12 - 718 Sessions 21st Anniversary at Good Room

718 Sessions is one of the last old-school NYC parties in the city. Started in 2002 by Danny Krivit and Benny Soto, they’ve spent the last 21 years keeping the spirit of New York house and disco alive at the roaming party. It’s the kind of place where the euphoric music opens people up to make new friends, new lovers and new dancing buddies across all demographics; young, old, gay, straight. If you want to experience this euphoria for yourself we recommend going to the 718 Sessions 21st Anniversary at Good Room this Sunday.
