Just like every week in New York City, there’s a lot going on this weekend. There’s actually a public holiday on Monday, meaning it’s a long weekend, which means there’s even more fun to be had. We’re not complaining, with legendary parties like 718 Sessions (with Danny Krivit and Occupy The Disco) and Battle Hymn (with The Carry Nation and Eli Escobar) hosting holiday parties that will have people dancing late night on Sunday.

While we’ve got you here, some other Sunday parties of note include; Funkbox’s 15th Anniversary, a house party for the heads by Tony Touch, Soul Summit is taking over Mister Sunday for a joyous all-day affair at Nowadays, Pachanga Boy’s Rebolledo will take dancers on a psychedelic journey at Jolene, and king of the LA underground, Victor Rodriguez, of Bears in Space fame, is playing in the city at The Parkside Lounge.

There are going to be some tough decisions when it comes to picking which party to go to but we have faith you’ll make the right choice. While it may seem super staked for the holiday weekend, New York has a long history of Sunday parties. It started in the 1950s and 60s where gay men on Fire Island would meet up for a ‘tea dance’ on Sunday afternoons. With the rise of disco and house in the later part of the 20th century, the term tea dance stuck and many legendary parties like Body & Soul and The Loft continued the joyful Sunday tradition. If you haven’t been to a tea dance, this might be your weekend to try it.

NYC Nightlife 10/6-10/7

10.6 - Discoteca NYC at Sugar Hill Disco

Walking into Sugar Hill Supper Club is like walking into a timewarp. The historic Bed Stuy venue started as a nightclub in 1979 and that 70s decadence is still there with mirrors that line the walls, red carpet, the works. It’s a fitting venue for Friday’s Discoteca with three DJs who will bring that disco spirit to life. Eli from Soul Clap4AM NYCOmer Mil and some special guests will be playing across two floors for a night of joyous mayhem.

10.6 - Earth Beat at Good Room

If you like to have fun then this is the party for you. Gee DeeExtra Andrew, and Latane Fundido have been playing together as Earth Beat for several years now, holding down a residency at Good Room for most of that time. They play across a number of different genres, from chuggers to proto house to Italo to trance, with some classics thrown in for good measure, but the overall vibe of the night is music that will make you want to take your shirt off. If you don’t know what we mean we recommend you head to Good Room on Friday to find out.

10.6 - Millos Kaiser at Black Flamingo

Millos Kaiser is dedicated to unearthing and celebrating the incredibly rich and diverse music of his native Brazil. His sets are known for traversing through Brazilian street soul, obscure Bahian oddities, and eighties synth workouts, often weaving in his own edits along the way. As you could imagine he’s a serious record digger, so if bright, eccentric rhythms sound like your kind of thing then we recommend heading to Black Flamingo on Friday where he’ll be playing with fellow Brazilian Renata Do Valle.

10.7 - Avalon Emerson presents 9000 Dreams at Knockdown Center

A 14 hour party where you start raving at 3pm and don’t stop until 5am, yes please. Avalon Emerson has gathered the best of both worlds for 9000 Dreams, live bands and DJs. She’s called up some of New York’s finest for the party at Knockdown Center who are united by their unabridged creativity. We recommend checking out Yu Sumusclecarsfcukers, as well as Avalon’s band The Charm closing out the day portion in The Ruins, and her DJ set to close the night portion in the Atrium.
