The Eternal Pull Of Theo Parrish

The Eternal Pull Of Theo Parrish

Theo Parrish has been playing all night/all day sets at Nowadays for a long time now, but the novelty never seems to wear off for the hundreds who flock to see him. Born in D.C., raised in Chicago and based in Detroit, he brings decades of knowledge to the decks and an inimitable style that joins dots in unexpected places and expands the limits of his source material.

Behold a few choice quotes from the internet to respond to the question, “I’m wondering how his shows are?”

Ditch whatever bullshit you had planned and go.

— He is the absolute boss. People who think they can DJ these days should check out TP. He's just another level. Total artist.

— Buckle up

So basically, if you haven’t been before, go, and if you have, you’ll probably want to go again anyway. Musically, you’ll get something different every time — his collection is deeeep, but you can expect majority Black music of every imaginable style and genre, mixed with innovative verve.

4.12.24 Theo Parrish All Night at Nowadays

Just another eight-hour sonic journey from one of the best to ever do it. Come early, come late, just come, and keep your mind open and your body loose.

4.13.24 Lauren Murada and Party Dad at Gabriela

For close to a decade now, Lauren Murada has been spreading the gospel of disco in NYC via her residency at Good Room, Love Games party, and Live Laugh Love record club. On Saturday, she’s doing it at Brooklyn’s hottest new nightspot Gabriela alongside her longtime spinning partner Party Dad. Expect smooth grooves and funk galore.

4.14.24 Battle Hymn at Rumi

The long-running monthly Sunday night party turns eight this weekend and it’s celebrating with a new resident DJ: Tedd Patterson. A legend of the NYC house scene, Patterson started DJing in Atlanta in the ‘80s and played at all New York’s hottest clubs upon his move to the city in the ‘90s, eventually leading to international bookings at the likes of Ageha in Tokyo, Pacha in Ibiza, and Ministry of Sound in London. He’ll be joined by Eli Escobar and The Carry Nation for an unholy communal cleanse.
